Villains Project

The Project

In collaboration with local Peterborough photographer Heather Doughty, we created a video for Heather’s Villains Project. Villains explores how the media and social media shapes mass opinion and rewrites a narrative, especially when that person is female. Villains provides a place where classic villains get to tell their “true” story (portrayed by 12 local women in the Peterborough
area). Our role in the project was creating a supporting video where the villains could tell their stories, not just through static images but with their own voices.

In anticipation of International Women’s Day, 2026 Doughty displayed her Villains exhibit and the video during First Friday (an art crawl held in downtown Peterborough on the first Friday of each month). There was much anticipation for the project with a story written in KawarthNOW by Megan Gallant alongside strong social media attention on Heather’s socials.
